Man builds Champagne bottle house!

A Russian man has built a house made almost entirely of Champagne bottles in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, where it is known as the “Palace of Oz”.



Resident, 52-year-old Hamidullah Ilchibaev, collected the 12,000 Champagne bottles over three years to build his 99-square meter house, as reported by Oddity Central. Most of the bottles were purchased while others were donated by nearby restaurants.

“When I started to build, I hadn’t even imagined that there are so many different kinds of bottles of champagne,” he said.

Using the bottles as bricks, Ilchibaev stacked his collection bottle neck inwards around a solid foundation leaving a gap between the insulation and the top of the bottle into which he poured a solution which holds the bottles in place, as well as keeping the building warm.

From the outside, you can see the bottoms – they give the walls a unique green texture and finish. From the inside, though, it pretty much looks like a regular house – you can’t tell that the walls are made of bottles. Hamidullah is confident that the house, which he gave as a wedding gift to his eldest son, will stand for at least 100 years.
